Terms

The rules of using Happenous.

Short version: describe things honestly, turn up when you said you would, and treat people well.

Effective 24 October 2026

1. About these Terms

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Cosmonus Private Limited, a company registered in India with its registered office at 10, Nagavalli Amman Street, Avadi 600054, India (“Happenous”, “we”, “us”). They apply to the Happenous app for Android and iPhone, and to this website.

When you create an account, the app asks you to accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy, and we record which version you accepted and when; you can’t create an account without doing so. By using Happenous you agree to them and — if you host — to the Host Code. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Happenous. These Terms are the rules and user agreement we publish under rule 3(1)(a) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (the “IT Rules”).

Some words have particular meanings here. An Activity is a plan someone has posted, and its Host is the person who posted it. The Crew is the people the Host accepted. A Buddy is someone you have a mutual, accepted connection with. Check-in is entering the Host’s code at the meeting point. A Moment is a photo or video posted after an Activity by someone who was there.

2. Who can use Happenous

  • You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract under Indian law.
  • You may have one account, in your own name, using your own email address and, if you give one, your own phone number.
  • You may not use Happenous if we have removed you from it before, or if the law prohibits you from using it.

We ask for your date of birth and don’t let anyone under 18 continue. If we find that someone under 18 has an account, we will delete it.

3. Your account

  • Give accurate information and keep it up to date. Don’t pretend to be someone else, or misrepresent your age or who you are.
  • Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • If you think someone else has got into your account, change your password, end any sessions you don’t recognise from Settings, and tell us.
  • We may reclaim a username that impersonates someone or breaks these Terms.
  • You can delete your account at any time from Settings. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what deletion does.

4. How Happenous works

Someone posts an Activity — a plan with a time, a place and a limit on how many people can come. Other people ask to join, confirming that they meet the Host’s requirements, and the Host accepts, declines or waitlists them. Until you are accepted you see only an approximate area. Once you are in the Crew you see the exact meeting point and can talk to the Crew in the Activity’s chat. At the meeting point the Host shows a check-in code that changes every five minutes. Only people who checked in can review each other or post Moments.

What Happenous is, and isn’t:

  • Happenous is a platform that helps people find each other. We don’t organise, run, supervise or attend Activities, and we are not a party to any arrangement between a Host and a Crew.
  • We don’t verify anyone’s identity, age, background or qualifications, and we don’t run background checks. Profiles, reviews and badges tell you something about how someone has used Happenous, not who they are.
  • We don’t handle money. Any cost of an Activity — a court booking, a ticket, a studio fee — is between the Host and the Crew.

5. Meeting people in person

The point of Happenous is meeting people you may not know, in person. That carries real risks, and you take part in any Activity at your own risk. You are responsible for your own safety, and for deciding whether an Activity, a place or a person is right for you.

Some habits that help:

  • Meet in public places, especially the first time.
  • Tell someone you trust where you are going and when you expect to be back.
  • Arrange your own way there and back.
  • Make sure an Activity suits your health, fitness and experience, and bring what its requirements ask for.
  • Leave whenever you want to. You never owe anyone an explanation.
  • If someone makes you uncomfortable, leave, then block and report them in the app.

Happenous is not an emergency service. If you are in danger, or someone is hurt, call 112 or your local emergency number first. Reports made in the app are reviewed by people, and are not watched in real time.

6. Community rules

You must not host, display, upload, publish, share or send — as an Activity, a profile, a Moment, a message, a review or anything else — any content that:

  • belongs to someone else, and that you have no right to share;
  • is obscene, pornographic or paedophilic; invades another person’s privacy, including their bodily privacy; insults or harasses anyone on the basis of gender; is racially or ethnically objectionable; relates to or encourages money laundering or gambling; or promotes enmity between groups on the grounds of religion or caste with the intent to incite violence;
  • is harmful to children;
  • infringes any patent, trademark, copyright or other proprietary right;
  • deceives or misleads anyone about where it came from, or knowingly and intentionally communicates misinformation, or information that is patently false and untrue or misleading;
  • impersonates another person;
  • threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, friendly relations with foreign States, or public order; incites the commission of any cognisable offence; prevents the investigation of any offence; or insults another nation;
  • contains a software virus or any other code designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functioning of any computer resource; or
  • breaks any law in force in India.

You also must not:

  • harass, threaten, bully, stalk or intimidate anyone, on Happenous or in person;
  • use Activities to make unwanted romantic or sexual approaches;
  • post an Activity that isn’t real, or that is really an advertisement or a sales pitch;
  • bring people to an Activity who weren’t accepted into its Crew, or share the exact meeting point with anyone outside it;
  • share anyone else’s personal information — their phone number, address or photos, for example — without their permission;
  • post Moments from an Activity whose Host asked for no participant photography, or post a photo of someone who asked you not to;
  • misuse check-in: share the code with someone who isn’t there, or check in when you aren’t;
  • write reviews about anything other than a person’s conduct at the Activity, or try to manipulate reviews or badges;
  • make false or malicious reports;
  • create more than one account, use someone else’s, or come back after we have removed you; or
  • scrape or collect data from Happenous by automated means, interfere with how it works, get around its limits, or try to reach anything you aren’t allowed to.

7. Zero tolerance

There is no tolerance on Happenous for objectionable content or abusive users. If you break the Community rules, we may remove your content and pause, block or delete your account, with or without warning.

You can report any profile, Activity or chat message from inside the app, choosing a reason: harassment, spam, impersonation, unsafe behaviour, inappropriate content, or something else. You can block anyone. Once you do, neither of you appears in the other’s search or discovery, and any Buddy connection between you ends.

Reports go to a moderation queue reviewed by people. We review reports and act on objectionable content within 24 hours, by removing the content and, where it is warranted, removing the person who posted it. You won’t be told the outcome of a report you made, and the person you reported isn’t told who reported them.

8. The Host Code

Every Host must accept the Host Code before they can publish an Activity. It is versioned: when it changes, you will be asked to accept the new version before you publish again, and we record which version you accepted and when. Version 2 of the Host Code, current since 14 October 2026, reads:

“By hosting you accept the Host Code: describe the Activity truthfully, communicate costs clearly, use the agreed meeting point, look after your Crew from the meet-up until the Activity ends, respect anyone who leaves, never create surprise participants, and follow the safety requirements for your category. Once the Activity ends, you are no longer responsible for the Crew: from then on, everyone is responsible for their own decisions.”

In practice, as a Host, that means:

  • Describe the Activity truthfully: what it is, how demanding it is, and what people need to bring.
  • Put every cost in the requirements, clearly, before anyone asks to join.
  • Choose a meeting point that is safe to meet at, and use the one you set. If plans change, tell the Crew in the Activity’s chat as early as you can.
  • Look after your Crew from the meet-up until the Activity ends: keep to the plan you described, keep an eye on the group, and act if someone is unwell or unsafe. Your responsibility for the Crew ends when the Activity ends. Whatever anyone does after that, including staying on together, is their own decision and their own responsibility.
  • Respect anyone who declines, leaves or doesn’t want to carry on. Never pressure anyone to stay, to pay, or to share personal information.
  • Only the people you accepted come. No surprise guests.
  • Follow the safety requirements for your category — a helmet for a ride, or an agreed return time for a trek, for example.
  • If the Activity can’t go ahead, cancel it in the app as early as you can.

Breaking the Host Code can lead to your Activities being locked or removed, and your account being paused, blocked or deleted.

9. Joining a Crew

  • Only ask to join an Activity you intend to go to.
  • When you confirm that you meet a requirement, mean it. Your confirmation is recorded.
  • If you can’t make it, leave the Crew in the app as early as you can, so someone else can go.
  • Follow the Host’s reasonable instructions, especially about safety.
  • Check in only when you are actually at the meeting point, and don’t share the code.

10. Reviews and Recognition

After an Activity you can review the other people who checked in — and they can review you — by answering three questions: did they turn up when they said they would, were they the person their profile described, and were they good to be around. You can review only people you both checked in alongside, once per Activity, within 14 days of it ending. A review can’t be edited or withdrawn after you submit it.

Reviews are anonymous. A profile shows totals only once three people have reviewed it. Any written note you add is never shown to the person you reviewed or to anyone else; our moderators may read it, and we may use reviews and their notes when deciding on reports.

Recognition badges are calculated automatically from check-ins and hosting. We don’t hand them out, and they can’t be bought.

Write reviews honestly, and only about the person’s conduct at the Activity.

11. Your content

You own what you post on Happenous — your profile, Activities, Moments, messages and reviews. By posting it, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, reproduce, display and adapt it (removing the location and other details embedded in a photo, for example) for the purpose of operating Happenous and showing it to the people the app shows it to. The licence ends when your content is deleted, except for copies we must keep under our Privacy Policy or the law, and content other people already have, such as messages they received.

We will not use your photos or videos in advertising or promotion without asking you first.

You are responsible for what you post. You confirm that you have the right to post it, and that anyone identifiable in a photo or video you post is happy to be in it.

We may remove any content that breaks these Terms, and we must act on valid orders from courts and government agencies under Indian law.

12. Suspension and termination

Where we reasonably believe you have broken these Terms or the law, or to protect anyone’s safety, we may:

  • remove or hide your content, including Activities and Moments;
  • lock an Activity while we look into it, or remove it;
  • pause your account — a temporary hold, usually while we look into something;
  • block your account — an indefinite ban; or
  • delete your account.

Pausing, blocking and deleting sign you out everywhere straight away, and you won’t be able to sign in. Every one of these decisions is recorded with the reason for it. When we lock or remove one of your Activities, we tell you why in the app. If you think we got something wrong, write to our Grievance Officer.

As the IT Rules require, where we remove content or disable access to it, we may preserve it and the records linked to it for 180 days, or longer if a court or lawful authority requires it, for investigation.

You can stop using Happenous and delete your account at any time. When your account is deleted, we keep the email address and phone number you registered with for 180 days, as rule 3(1)(h) of the IT Rules requires, use them only to answer a lawful request, and then delete them. The Privacy Policy explains what else deletion does. The parts of these Terms that by their nature should continue — including Your content (for content already shared), Disclaimers, Taking part at your own risk, Indemnity, and Governing law and disputes — continue to apply.

13. The service

Happenous is free to use. If we ever introduce paid features, we will tell you the price before you pay anything.

We are improving Happenous all the time, so features will change and some may be added or withdrawn. We try to keep it running, but we don’t promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors.

The Happenous name, the app, this website and the software behind them belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the app for its intended purpose, in line with these Terms. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer or resell it, except where the law allows.

App stores

If you downloaded Happenous from Apple’s App Store or Google Play, that store’s terms also apply to your use of the app. These Terms are between you and us, not Apple or Google. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app, and is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to it — including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer protection claims, or claims that it infringes someone’s intellectual property. If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies to it, you may notify Apple, which may refund its purchase price (if any); to the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a United States Government embargo, and are not on any United States Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

14. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Happenous is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

We are not responsible for the conduct of any user, on Happenous or offline; for any Activity, including whether it goes ahead, what happens at it, or the safety of the place it is held; or for the accuracy of anything users post, including Activity descriptions, requirements, costs, profiles and reviews.

Nothing in these Terms excludes any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, or under any other law that cannot be excluded by agreement.

15. Taking part at your own risk

Happenous is a social app for meeting people in real life. Every Activity is organised by its Host, not by Happenous, and you take part in it — and meet the people you find here — at your own risk.

So prepare yourself before you go. Read the Activity and its requirements, and bring what it asks for. Look at the Host’s profile and reviews. Meet only at the public place given, tell someone you trust where you’ll be (Activity Mode can share your plan with them), and leave whenever you feel uncomfortable. If you are in danger, call 112 first.

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill or opportunity, arising from your use of Happenous;
  • we are not liable for any injury, loss or damage arising from an Activity, from meeting someone you found through Happenous, or from anything another user does or posts.

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under Indian law.

16. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Happenous and its directors, employees and agents against any claim, loss, liability or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from content you post, Activities you host or take part in, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or of anyone’s rights.

17. Our role as an intermediary

Happenous is an intermediary under the Information Technology Act, 2000: the content on it is posted by its users, not by us. We observe the due diligence the IT Rules require of intermediaries — including publishing these Terms and our Privacy Policy, acting on reports and on lawful orders, and appointing a Grievance Officer. We will remind you of these Terms and our Privacy Policy at least once a year, and whenever they change.

18. Grievance Officer

If you have a complaint about content on Happenous, about how we have applied these Terms, or about your personal data, contact our Grievance Officer:

  • Name: Sri Gokul Krishnan (LinkedIn)
  • Email: hello@cosmonus.com
  • Post: Cosmonus Private Limited, 10, Nagavalli Amman Street, Avadi 600054, India

You can also report content from inside the app. That is the fastest way, because the report stays attached to what it is about.

  • We acknowledge every complaint within 24 hours, and resolve it within 15 days of receiving it.
  • A complaint asking us to remove content that falls under the list in Community rules is acted on within 72 hours.
  • Content that exposes a person’s private area, shows them in full or partial nudity or in a sexual act, or impersonates them — including a morphed image — is removed within 24 hours of a complaint by that person, or by someone on their behalf.

If you are unhappy with our Grievance Officer’s decision, you can appeal to the Grievance Appellate Committee set up by the Government of India, at gac.gov.in, within 30 days of receiving it.

19. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Before starting legal proceedings, please contact our Grievance Officer so we can try to resolve the problem. Subject to that, the courts at Chennai have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of Happenous.

20. Changes to these Terms

We will update these Terms as Happenous changes. The date at the top says when they last changed. If a change materially affects you, the app will ask you to accept the new version before you carry on using it, and we will record that you did. If you don’t agree with them, you can still export your data and delete your account from the app.

21. General

  • These Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Host Code are the whole agreement between you and us about Happenous.
  • If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
  • If we don’t enforce a right straight away, we haven’t given it up.
  • You can’t transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours as part of a reorganisation, merger or sale, and will tell you if we do.
  • We may send you notices through the app or to the email address on your account. You can send notices to us at hello@cosmonus.com.
