Track

Do it again. Then go a little further.

Track is where your runs, rides and walks go — and where you and your Buddies can set each other something to beat. It’s optional. Someone who never records anything still gets all of Happenous.

How Track works, one week at a time

  1. Record

    Press Start, and go.

Running, cycling, walking, trekking or motorcycling. Track records the route on your phone and gives you the distance, the moving time and your pace or speed. It pauses itself at a red light and says each kilometre out loud, so the phone can stay in your pocket.

    • Private by default
    • Your route, exactly
    • Live location to one Buddy

A recording on its own is just for you, so there is no reason to go faster than is sensible. Badminton, yoga or the gym? Log the session by hand; it sits beside your routes.

  2. Share

With your Buddies — or with nobody.

A shared walk shows on your Buddies’ Home, with the numbers and a map. The first and last 200 metres are left off, so where you started and finished — often home — isn’t shown. It sits on Home like a Moment, the map where a photo would be. Buddies can give Support with one tap, comment, or send it on. No ranking, no follower count. Stop sharing and it goes back to being yours alone.

  3. Challenge a Buddy

Appu sees it. He sets Gokul a challenge.

From any ride, set a Buddy a challenge: fastest over the same distance for a run, furthest for a ride or a walk. Your recording is your result. They have seven days to answer. Challenges can also be a group, a target, a personal best, a streak or teams.

  4. Results

    5.2 against 5.6. Close.

When the week is up, the results sit side by side. Each distance shows the time it took, so a longer walk that took twice as long reads as one. Every result ends on what you did together, whoever won. Recorded by GPS, timed with the stopwatch, or typed in — each is labelled for what it is. If a result looks wrong, question it: a person at Happenous reviews it.

  5. Again

    Sunday rematch?

Rematch opens a new challenge with the same Buddy already filled in. Or don’t: your personal best is the one that counts, and doing it again matters more than winning.

What counts

A result counts, and is marked when we can stand behind it.

Finishing a challenge, winning one and setting a personal best all show on its board. A result backed by turning up — recorded or typed at an Activity you checked in to — is marked as verified.

Every result ranks. The marks say what each one is.
  • Backed by a check-inA result from an Activity you checked in to counts, ranks, and is marked as verified.
  • Everything else still countsA typed result, or a ride from anywhere, still counts, ranks and can set a personal best.
  • Nothing for opening the appOr for writing reviews. Nothing here rewards time on your phone.
  • No pings about boardsHappenous doesn’t notify you when somebody passes you.
Boards

No global leaderboard. On purpose.

A board is always small enough to mean something: the people in one challenge. Never “rank 14,932 in India”.

  • Only the people in one challengeThat’s every board there is.
  • Only if you joinA challenge’s board has only the people who joined it.
  • Safety before speedNothing in Track rewards unsafe speed, overtraining or late-night meetups.

Last week, Appu walked further. Now Appu challenges you to the run.

Availability

Track is in the app from day one. It lives in its own tab. It’s optional — everything else in Happenous works without it. You’ll need to be 18 or over to record or set a track.

Start with something to do.

Track is better with people you’ve met. Find an Activity this week, or host one.
